Functions in Oracle

function is a block of code that performs a specific task and gives single result to the user. All databases are supporting two types of functions, those are

  1. system/pre-defined functions
  2. user defined functions

System /predefined Functions: These functions are also called as inbuilt functions. Oracle is already provided some system/predefined function that would be having some specific meaning. We can work with these functions in SQL and PL/SQL languages. Oracle supports following system/predefined functions, they are

  • Numeric Functions
  • Trigonometric Functions
  • Character/String Functions
  • Date and Time Functions
  • Grouping / Aggressive Functions

User Defined Functions: these functions would create and developed by user which also performs specific task. Only PL/SQL allows user defined functions.
